About International Collaborations

In an increasingly interconnected world, global exposure is an integral part of management education. At XLRI, international collaboration is aimed at creating opportunities for students and faculty to learn, collaborate and engage with institutions and communities across the globe.

XLRI has developed academic collaborations and exchange partnerships with prestigious institutions across Europe, the United States, Asia and other regions. These partnerships facilitate student and faculty exchange, collaborative research, academic programmes and short-term international learning opportunities.

At XLRI, we believe that management education goes beyond classrooms and geographical boundaries. Through international student exchange, collaborative academic programmes, faculty engagement, joint research and other global initiatives, XLRI continues to strengthen its commitment to developing globally aware and responsible leaders.

International Student Exchange Programme

Experience the World with ISEP

The International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP) is one of XLRI's key international initiatives, providing students with opportunities to study at partner institutions across the world.

With the objective of developing a global outlook, ISEP connects XLRI students with leading international institutions, enabling them to experience different academic environments, cultures and perspectives. At the same time, international students from partner institutions are welcomed to XLRI, creating a diverse and globally connected campus environment.

ISEP at XLRI

ISEP facilitates both outgoing student exchange opportunities for XLRI students and incoming exchange opportunities for students from partner institutions. The ISEP Committee also supports international students during their stay at XLRI and assists outgoing students with aspects of their exchange journey.

International students coming to XLRI are also supported through the student committee, which helps them settle into campus life and understand academic and other aspects of their stay.

XLRI's international engagement spans student exchange, collaborative (dual-degree) programmes, faculty exchange, joint research, consulting, and short-term study opportunities with global university partners.

PGDM (BM) with International Specialisation

XLRI offers international specialization tracks within the PGDM (BM) programme, in partnership with leading global universities. Each track includes 400+ hours of specialized content — more than double a traditional MBA functional specialization — and leads to a dual outcome: XLRI's PGDM (BM) diploma plus a Master's degree (MS/MBA) from the partner university.

Frequently Asked Questions

International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP)

ISEP is XLRI's International Student Exchange Programme, through which students can study at partner institutions abroad and international students can undertake an exchange term at XLRI.

Eligibility, selection criteria, academic requirements and available partner institutions may vary by programme and exchange cycle. Students should refer to the relevant ISEP guidelines issued by XLRI.

Yes. Incoming exchange students are supported by the ISEP ecosystem, including the Buddy System, which helps students settle into campus life.

No. XLRI's international collaborations extend to areas such as faculty exchange, joint research, consulting, dual-degree/collaborative programmes, and short-term study opportunities.

A dean or authorised representative of the institution may contact XLRI's International Relations Office to express interest in establishing a partnership.

Collaborative Programmes — General

English only.

Three: the entire first-year XLRI PGDM (BM) curriculum; additional foundational credits at XLRI for the chosen specialization; and the specialization curriculum at the global university partner in the second year.

Full-time and residential — in person at the XLRI campus and then at the partner university's campus. Partner classes begin in the Fall semester of the second year.

Curriculum & Programme Structure

Nine tracks across four global partners for the 2026–28 batch — see the Specialization Tracks table above.

Traditional MBA specializations (Finance, Marketing, Strategy, Operations) are functional. These tracks are inter-disciplinary, requiring inputs across functional areas, and cover 400+ hours of specialization content versus ~150 hours in a traditional specialization.

Students who want to combine general management education with an industry-relevant, inter-disciplinary specialization — gaining what would otherwise require a separate, costly full-time specialized master's programme.

No. The choice is final once you join, since the global university partner initiates its own regulatory/enrolment processing based on your selection.

64 first-year core credits at XLRI, followed by 6–8 foundational credits at the start of year two, then 24 credits at the US partner (transferred back as 36 XLRI credits) or 370–400 hours at IAE Paris Sorbonne.

Standard XLRI academic standards apply, and students must not fail any course whose credits are meant to transfer. Students must also meet the partner university's own minimum academic standards for award of their degree.

Admission & Enrollment

A valid four-year bachelor's degree (10+2+4) from a recognized, accredited institution in any discipline. Prior work experience is not mandatory, though industry exposure helps.

Yes — a separate application form to the partner university (for visa documentation) during the first or second term at XLRI. Some partners also require a valid TOEFL score, which can be taken during the first term.

Select the international specialization option on the XLRI application form and list your preferred tracks in order of preference; the rest of the application is the same as for PGDM.

Yes. If selected for more than one, you must choose a single final track when accepting the offer letter.

No — it is the same common selection process, with one interview per applicant regardless of how many tracks were applied to.

Visa, Career Development & Career Outcomes

The partner university's separate visa-documentation application typically opens September–November of the first year.

Processing timelines allow for more than one visa application attempt; in rare cases, a student can defer to the following semester in which the track is offered.

Most US tracks are STEM-designated, giving eligibility for OPT (currently up to 3 years). The exception is Sports Management (non-STEM), eligible for standard OPT (currently ~1 year). French-track students are eligible for a renewable 1-year residence and work permit.

Yes — full access to the partner university's career services, plus XLRI's placement services for students taking an industry internship in the first-year summer.

Yes. XLRI's global partners have 150+ to nearly 800 years of history and are generally recognized for immigration purposes in OECD, EU/EEA, and Commonwealth countries.

No degree guarantees a job. The programme is a competitive advantage, but outcomes depend on academic performance, prior experience, and leadership — not the qualification alone.

Fees, Scholarships & Programme Costs

Yes — US partners offer merit-based scholarships; the French partner has scholarships built into a subsidized fee structure.

Per semester. XLRI fees are paid to XLRI; partner-university fees are paid directly to the partner as per their own schedule.

₹19,78,200 (tentative) for Year I — subject to revision, to be confirmed before admission.

XLRI provides student hostel accommodation at the Jamshedpur campus. Partner universities generally don't provide campus housing but offer portals to help find off-campus housing.

Most partners occasionally offer paid part-time administrative, research, or teaching assistantship roles, depending on student performance and partner policy.

Alumni Status & Continued Association

Life membership of the XLRI Alumni Association, plus eligibility for life membership of the partner university's alumni body as per their policy.

Through alumni events, occasional online workshops/talks, discounted executive education at both institutions, and eligibility to apply to their doctoral programmes.
