Research Centre of Excellence in Coaching & Leadership
X-CEL is a joint Centre of Excellence established by XLRI Xavier School of Management and IOCM (Institute of Coaching & Mentoring), unveiled at the ICF National Conclave. The Centre has been founded to build a rigorous, Asian-context evidence base for coaching, mentoring, and leadership effectiveness — questions that have not yet been asked with the depth the region deserves.

Why X-CEL was founded
Concern that the most important questions in coaching and leadership research have largely been framed outside Asia — and rarely by researchers and practitioners working close to the ground here — was a key factor in founding the Centre. Faculty from XLRI and practitioners from IOCM came together to set its framework, launching X-CEL to close that gap.
X-CEL's focus is to generate original, peer-reviewed research and translate it into insight practitioners can actually use, while building a community of scholars and practitioners across Asia. Taking forward XLRI's guiding motto of Excellence with Integrity, the Centre seeks to establish itself as the reference point Asia turns to for credible, applied insight on how people are developed to lead.
X-CEL exists to change how coaching and leadership are studied and practiced in Asia — replacing borrowed frameworks with evidence built from and for the region.
To this end, three areas of focus anchor the Centre's work.

White papers, toolkits, and case studies that translate evidence into something practitioners can actually use.
